Superstore Sales Dashboard (Power BI)

Problem Statement

The Superstore Sales Dashboard was created to help retail stakeholders understand key sales trends and improve decision-making around inventory, regional performance, and product category profitability. The goal was to identify top-performing regions and products, monitor revenue trends, and flag underperforming areas using visual analytics.

Steps Followed

Step 1: Data Loading
Imported the Superstore Sales Dataset (CSV format) into Power BI Desktop.

Step 2: Data Cleaning & Transformation
Used Power Query Editor to inspect column distributions, quality, and remove empty rows. Ensured correct data types for fields like Order Date, Sales, and Profit.

Step 3: DAX Measures
Created custom measures such as:

Total Sales = SUM(Superstore[Sales])

Total Profit = SUM(Superstore[Profit])

Order Month = MONTH('Super store data'[Order Date])

OrderYear = YEAR('Super store data'[Order Date])

Step 4: Dashboard Design
Built an interactive dashboard containing:

  • Line Chart showing monthlysales trends by year.

  • Stacked Column Chart comparing sales across regions.

  • Pie Chart displaying category-wise sales distribution.

  • Bar Chart for top-selling products by revenue.

  • KPI Cards for Total Sales, Profit, and Profit Margin.

Key Insights

  • Technology category contributed the highest revenue and profit.

  • Tables within the Furniture category had high sales but very low profit – a potential area of concern.

IBM - HR Employee Attrition Dashboard (Power BI)

Problem Statement

The HR Employee Attrition Dashboard was developed to help HR and management teams gain insights into employee turnover, departmental attrition patterns, and workforce satisfaction. The goal was to identify departments with high attrition, understand contributing factors, and support data-driven strategies to improve retention and employee engagement.

Steps Followed

Step 1: Data Loading
Imported the HR Employee Attrition dataset into Power BI Desktop from a CSV file.

Step 2: Data Cleaning & Transformation
Utilized Power Query Editor to inspect data quality, remove unnecessary columns, and ensure correct data types for fields such as Attrition, Job Role, Age, and Monthly Income.

Step 3: DAX Measures
Created custom DAX measures for key insights, including:

Total Employees = COUNT('HR-Employee-Attrition'[EmployeeNumber]

Attrition Count = CALCULATE(COUNT('HR-Employee-Attrition'[Attrition]), 'HR-Employee-Attrition'[Attrition] = "Yes")

Attrition Rate = DIVIDE([Attrition Count], [Total Employees])

Average Age = AVERAGE('HR-Employee-Attrition'[Age])

Step 4: Dashboard Design
Built an interactive dashboard containing:

  • KPI Cards for Total Employees, Attrition Count, and Attrition Rate

  • Bar Charts showing attrition by Department and Job Role

  • Pie Chart highlighting attrition distribution by Gender or Education Field

  • Line Chart showing average numbers in Job Satisfaction

  • Slicer Filters for Department, Gender, Education Field and Job Role

Key Insights

  • The Research and Development department showed the highest number of attrition cases.

  • Employees in Human Resources and Sales had relatively lower turnover.

  • Younger employees (under 30) and those with lower job satisfaction were more likely to leave.
